Exploring Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 | first part

Lightroom is a well-known db-driven software for raw format development, image editing and workflow tool.
Latest version, still in beta, intoduces new features as:
- geotags management
- soft proofing
- lightroom-to-book features
- some video editing
But I’ve been particularly struck by editing tools updates and Basic Panel reworks.
LR v4 introduces a new version of the image processing engine, with recalibrated and reconfigured set of tools. The side effect of this changes is a significant impact on lightroom users workflow…
And what about color management? Oh yeah!
But let’s DON’T this in an orderly fashion!
For first…
Oh oh! Lightroom 4 doesn’t support 32 bit Mac OS, and windows versions run only on Vista and 7.
Video
From the Library mode, you can play and scrub videos, and trim in a non-distructive way.
Wow! You can also apply some enhancing edits from Quick Develop commands panel.
LR supports video formats as .mp4, .mov, and export directly with H.264 encoding or DPX.
Soft Proofing
I really like this features! Adobe has listened to its users prayers and finally we’re allowed to see how the image will appear printed!
In the soft proofing panel, you can select the ICC profile and the rendering intent and also simulates paper and ink and have a more precise level of preview.
I think that many people (not so demanding, to be honest) surely likes this feature and will finally throw PS in the trashcan ![]()

Softproof
Geotagging
If your camera records GPS data, you can automatically show the location at which the picture was shooted. Also. you can import tracklog data and tags images by time stamps.
You can easiliy use the map as a search tool. Clicking on an image marker automatically makes a selection of pictures that matches the Gps-coordinates.
second part coming soon!
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 – prime impressioni.
Stay tuned!
